HIstory & purpose

Post Semester Evangelism

Evangelism

The main aim of post-semester evangelism is to send the message of God to communities around us.

Establish Churches

By teaching the word and establishing faith, we plant a church in communities which has no church.

Spiritual Engagement

We engage and empower our neighboring communities spiritually by joining them to minister to themselves and others

History of Post-Semester Evangelism

Evangelism is an integral part of the GNAAS UCC Fellowship. Particularly, off-campus evangelism, in which students mount pulpits for public campaigns, have baptisms, start churches, and in some cases, continue with follow-up activities until the church becomes self-sufficient. This model has led to the establishment and strengthening of several churches in Cape Coast and many parts of the Central Region and other nearby regions.

Previously, until 2008, it used to be Pre-Semester Evangelism, which was usually held in communities around campus (Ola, Apewosika, etc.) during the first few weeks of reopening, with continued follow-up during the semester. But from 2009 onwards, it evolved into an end-of-semester evangelism, which is held a week or two after school goes on break. It started with the long vacations, but over time, the short vacation has also been included due to students’ willingness and demand from surrounding communities.

The impact of the Post Semester Evangelism is in threefold:

  • First, on the spiritual and moral nurturing of fellowship members, while also providing a platform for learning, identifying, and/or nurturing various talents, such as singing, speaking, cooking, and many other art forms that many can attest to.
  • Second, on the church, as it helps propagate the message of Christ’s return, establish churches where there aren’t any, and also help in revivals.
  • Third, on the communities, as we use it as an opportunity to inspire unity, hygienic practices, cleanliness, and moral education for youth and families.

It hasn’t been without challenges; in fact, each year, the number of students interested in going for missions outnumbers those who can be accommodated, and passionate ones have to be turned away unfortunately sometimes. The cost of the Post Semester Evangelism is a key challenge. These have led some churches or districts to withdraw because of the cost involved. But despite all these, Prof. Ps Ankomah has been very helpful in steering affairs to make it possible. Another consistent supporter is Mr. Seth Selasie Dzah, who has been a speaker/participant every post-semester evangelism all through the years to date. Also, some alumni and individuals have made it their personal project to support the Post Semester Evangelism each year in their own way, which has been very helpful.

Going forward:

  • Through the chaplain, a rubber plantation was started in 2020 to serve as a major source of income to ensure dedicated, continuous, available funds for the Post Semester Evangelism in the future.
  • PA systems solely for Post Semester Evangelism are very much needed.
  • Will be helpful to have more individuals add post semester evangelism to their personal expenses to support annually
  • It would be good for conferences, districts, and churches to take advantage of and integrate this into their evangelistic agenda so that it will be easy to get sites and funds each year for this all-important program.
